In this article, I will be showing you how you can install WordPress locally on your laptop.

Firstly, what is the importance of hosting WordPress on your computer instead of using a hosting plan?

Here we go... hosting can be sometimes expensive and difficult to manage, but if WordPress is hosted on your computer, you will not have to pay any money to host it, and managing it is as simple as doing a few clicks here and there.

Hosting locally can also give you the chance to play around with WordPress without the fear or pressure of running out of a hosting plan

Steps on installing WordPress locally on your computer

Search XAMMP download on your browser

Download the XAMMP software

click on the downloaded XAMPP folder to start your Installation

You might see a UAC pop-up, please click OK

Installations Starts

Click ‘Next>’ all through the installation

Click Finish to complete the installation

Note: Your XAMPP has some ports it listens to, please ensure that those ports are free in case you have some software using any of those ports

Secondly, XAMPP uses HTTP it will be considered unsecured on your computer; therefore, you might receive some warning, just click ‘Ok’ or any button that would give you permission to continue to use the XAMMP software

if your installation is successful, you should see a control panel with some services

In case you did not see it, kindly go to your Windows search bar, and search for the XAMPP control panel

click on it, to start up the XAMPP server

WordPress Download and Installation

The next thing to do is to download your WordPress

Go to ‘https://wordpress.org/’

Click on Get WordPress button at the top right corner of your computer

The page will show this

Click on ‘Download WordPress 6.3.1’

Once you are done downloading it the next thing to do is install WordPress

Steps to Installing WordPress

Unzip the folder using WinRAR

You can download WinRAR from https://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0

Right-click on the WordPress folder

Hover over WinRAR

Click on Extract files

Click on Local Dick (C)

Scroll down and click on XAMPP

Locate htdocs and click on it

Click ok

The extraction starts immediately, we need to place the extracted WordPress inside of the htdocs

When the extraction is done, you can see something like this when you open the htdocs

Local Disk > XAMPP > htdocs

you can see that WordPress is now inside the htdocs, which means the XAMPP is hosting the WordPress software

Installing WordPress

Start your server from your XAMPP control Panel

Go to your Windows search bar and search for XAMPP

Double Click on the control panel

Start the Apache and Mysql service by clicking on each of their services, which is the first two services

Note that the start on the buttons will change to stop, with a green color on the modules

Open your browser, type localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/

Click ‘enter’ on your keyboard

Your language

Click continue when you scroll down

Click on lets go

on the next form that appears

input Database Name as test

input Username as root

do not input anything in the password, ensure it is totally empty

input database host as localhost

Table Prefix as wp_

click on submit

Another form will open

Fill in your information, please ensure to use small letters in the site title and username

You may not have to check the discouraged search engine …..

Ensure you know your details because you will need it for logging in

Click the button below after filling it

Click log in

Then fill out the WordPress login form that opens up next with your details

Here is your WordPress dashboard
